Vinorelbine - vinorelbine tartrate

Vinorelbine is a semisynthetic vinca alkoloid. Vinorelbine interferes with microtubules, which compose of miotic spindle fibres leading to cell cycle arrest in the metaphase.

Indications of Vinorelbine

  • Non small cell lung carcinoma,
  • breast carcinoma,
  • hodgkins disease,
  • ovarian carcinoma,
  • squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck,
  • cervicai,
  • SCLC,
  • renal cell cancer and
  • kaposis sarcoma.

Dosage of Vinorelbine

I.V. dose -- Initial dose of 30mg/m2 weekly over a period of 6-10min. No dose adjustment are required for renal insufficiency.

Contraindlcations of Vinorelbine

Hypersensitivity, intrathecal administration as it is extremely irritating.

Special precautions with Vinorelbine

In patients with bone marrow, hepatic insufficiency, neuropathy.

Side-effects of Vinorelbine

  • Granulocytopenia,
  • anaemia,
  • thrombocytopenia,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • constipation,
  • peripheral neuropathy,
  • dyspnoea,
  • cough,
  • bronchospasm,
  • alopecia,
  • injection,
  • site reaction,
  • myalgia,
  • muscle weakness and
  • jaw pain.
