Taxanes - taxol taxanes paclitaxel

Paclitaxel is isolated from the bark of the western Yew. Docetaxel is a semisynthetic taxane. They bind to tubulin dimers and prevent their assembly into microtubules, and are active drugs against many cancers such as ovarian, breast and lung cancer. Taxanes can cause neurotoxicity and hypersensitivity reactions and patients should be premedicated with steroids, H 1 and H 2 histamine antagonists prior to treatment.
