Mutamycin - Mutamycin information

Generic Name: Mitomycin

Mutamycin is transformed intraceilularly to a form which acts as an alkylating agent and kills cells in G,-M phases. Mutamycin is highly toxic drug used only in resistant cancers of stomach cervix, colon, rectum, bladder etc.

Indications: Adenocarcinoma, lymphosarcoma & Seminoma.

Dosage of Mutamycin

6-10 Lv twice weekly 0 0.05 mg/kg body wt daily for 5 days repeating schedule after 2 days to a total dose of 60-100 mg.

Contra indications of Mutamycin

  • Do not use thrugh i.m or s.c. route.
  • Bone marrow depression.
  • Severe anaemia,
  • haemorrhagic tendencies.

Special Precautions of Mutamycin of drug

  1. Thrombocytopenia.
  2. Necrosis.
  3. Leukopenia.

Side-effects: Toxicity to bone marrow and G.I.T.

Drug Interaction of Mutamycin

  • Potentiates adriamycin induced cardiotoxicity.
  • Barbiturates and cimetidine alter levels.
  • Synergistic with5-flurouracil.
