Home :: Asbestos Disease :: Mantle cell lymphoma
Mantle cell lymphomaAgain, this is predominantly a disease of older people. Most present with advanced disease, bone marrow infiltration being almost invariable. Gastrointestinal tract involvement is quite frequently seen. Although patients do respond to treatment as for follicular lymphoma, the median survival is less than 4 years. Mantle cell lymphoma informationMorphologically it may be difficult to distinguish from small lymphocytic lymphoma, but may be defined by expression of the CD23 antigen in association with CD5 and CD19, and by the upregulation of PRAD/cyclin D1. The huge difference in prognosis between the two diseases underlines the importance of immunological and molecular evaluation of haematological malignancies.
