Finasteride
Finasteride propeciaFinasteride, a synthetic 4 azasteroid compound, is a competitive and specific inhibitor of 5 alpha-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts testosteronoe into DHT. The bioavailabiiity is about 80% and most absorption occurs within 2 hours. Indications: Treatment of symptomatic Benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dosage: 5 mg once daily. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, pregnancy. Special Precautions of FinasterideCaution should be used in patients with liver function abnormalities, as finasteride is metabolized extensively in the liver. Paediatrics -- Should not be used. Pregnancy -- Should not be used. Lactation -- Use with caution. Elderly -- Safe. Side Effects of Finasteride
Drug Interactions of FinasterideMay increase clearance of theophylline by 7% and decrease its half life by 10% after IV aminophylline administration.
