Ceftriaxone Sodium Side Effects

Indroduction and Uses of Ceftriaxone Sodium

Ceftriaxone sodium is an antibiotic that belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporins. Ceftriaxone are used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria. They work by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Ceftriaxone are used to treat infections in many different parts of the body. They are sometimes given with other antibiotics. Some Ceftriaxone given by injection are also used to prevent infections before, during, and after surgery. However, Ceftriaxone will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.

Possible Side effects of Ceftriaxone Sodium

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

  • Swollen glands
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Tiredness or weakness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Vaginal itching
  • Abdominal or stomach cramps and pain
  • Pain at place of injection
  • Diarrhea

Dosage and dosing of Ceftriaxone Sodium

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Ceftriaxone Sodium injection

  • This medicine works best when there is a constant amount in the blood or urine. To help keep the amount constant, do not miss any doses. Also, it is best to take the doses at evenly spaced times, day and night.
  • To help clear up your infection completely, keep taking this medicine for the full time of treatment , even if you begin to feel better after a few days.
  • Use of antibiotics can change the normal organisms in your body. Women are at risk of getting fungal infections. Tell your nurse or doctor if you get vaginal itching or discharge.
  • This medicine may cause false test results with some urine sugar tests. Check with your doctor before changing your diet or the dosage of your diabetes medicine
  • This drug should be used with caution in patients with a history of colitis.

Storage conditions of Ceftriaxone Sodium

Keep nitulamide in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
