Cefdinir - omnicef cefdinir capsule

Indroduction and Uses of Cefdinir

Cefdinir stops bacteria from making their cell wall, so the bacteria die. Cefdinir is active against some bacteria that are resistant to penicillin medicines. Cefdinir is used to treat mild or moderate infections: community-acquired pneumonia, worsening bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, or tonsillitis. They work by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Cefdinir is given by mouth with or without food in the morning and night for 10 days. The dose depends upon the type of infection and whether you have any problems with your kidneys.

Possible Side effects of Cefdinir

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

  • Vaginal itching
  • Headache
  • Sleepiness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash
  • Heartburn
  • Vaginal candidiasis
  • Trouble in breathing
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Decreased red blood cell count
  • Prolonged bleeding time
  • Abdominal tenderness
  • Diarrhea related to infection of the intestinal lining
  • Loss of appetite
  • Seizures
  • Allergic reaction with fever

Dosage and dosing of Cefdinir

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Cefdinir

  • If you have any kidney problems, your doctor will reduce the amount of drug you receive.
  • If you are taking antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum, take cefdinir at least 2 hours before or after the antacid.
  • If you are taking iron or iron supplements, take cefdinir at least 2 hours before or after the iron.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking probenecid, as the dose of cefdinir will need to be reduced.
  • If you use a clinitest to test your urine for sugar, cefdinir may cause a false positive. You should use Clinistix or Tes-tape.
  • The drug dose must be reduced if you have kidney problem or colitis.

Storage conditions of Cefdinir

Keep Cefdinir in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Cancer Tip

The use of dietary supplements is a topic of considerable controversy, especially in the cancer treatment phase. These dietary supplements include nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are essential for human health, as well as a wide variety of non-essential nutrients, such as phytochemicals, hormones, and herbs.
