Calcitonin Salmon - Calcitonin Drug

Indroduction and Uses of Calcitonin Salmon

Calcitonin Salmon (pronounced ka pe sight a been) is chemotherapy that is given as a treatment for some types of cancer, including advanced bowel cancer or breast cancer. Calcitonin Salmon prevents cells from making DNA and RNA by interfering with the synthesis of nucleic acids, thus stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Calcitonin salmon injection is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to weaken and break more easily. Calcitonin salmon injection is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone and to quickly reduce calcium levels in the blood when needed. Calcitonin is a human hormone that is also found in salmon. It works by preventing bone breakdown and increasing bone density (thickness). Calcitonin salmon injection is also used sometimes to treat osteogenesis imperfecta. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition.

Possible Side effects of Calcitonin Salmon

Each person’s reaction to chemotherapy is unique. Some people have very few side effects, while others may experience more. The side effects described in this information will not affect everyone who is given Calcitonin Salmon, and may be different if you are having more than one chemotherapy drug.

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • redness, swelling, or irritation at the site of injection
  • flushing (feeling of warmth) of the face or hands
  • increased urination at night
  • itching of the ear lobes
  • feverish feeling
  • eye pain
  • decreased appetite
  • stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Low calcium blood levels (if drug is very effective)
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • swelling of the tongue or throat

Dosage and dosing of Calcitonin Salmon

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Calcitonin Salmon

  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to calcitonin salmon or any other medications. Your doctor may do a skin test before you start calcitonin salmon to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction to it.
  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking
  • You may also receive intravenous fluids, since it is important for your kidneys to make a lot of urine.

Storage conditions of Calcitonin Salmon

Keep Calcitonin Salmon in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
