Bupropion Hydrochloride

Indroduction and Uses of Bupropion Hydrochloride

Bupropion hydrochloride is an aminoketone antidepressant used to relieve anxiety or depression (under the brand names Wellbutrin and Wellbutrin SR). It is also used as a smoking cessation aid (under the brand name Zyban). Bupropion prevents two of these neurotransmitters, noradrenaline and dopamine, from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells.

Possible Side effects of Bupropion Hydrochloride

  • Agitation,
  • anxiety,
  • insomnia,
  • weight loss,
  • headache,
  • dry mouth,
  • nausea,
  • constipation,
  • dizziness.

Dosage and dosing of Bupropion Hydrochloride

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Bupropion Hydrochloride

  • This medicine may reduce your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you and you are sure it won't affect your performance.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as there is no information regarding its safety and efficacy in this age group.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose of this medicine. Doing so increases the risk of fits (seizures), which is a rare side effect of this medicine.
  • Use caution until you determine how the medication affects you. Drowsiness or lightheadedness can occur.
  • Bupropion has not caused birth defects in animals. Adequate human studies have not been done. Bupropion is not recommended while you are pregnant. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Storage conditions of Bupropion Hydrochloride

Keep nitulamide in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
