Bisacodyl

Indroduction and Uses of Bisacodyl

Bisacodyl is a Stimulant laxative. Bisacodyl increases the volume of fluid in the intestines to stimulate passage of the stool. It also acts on the smooth muscle of the intestine to increase contractions.

Possible Side effects of Bisacodyl Tablet

  • Confusion,
  • irregular heartbeat,
  • muscle cramps,
  • skin rash,
  • unusual tiredness
  • weakness
  • belching,
  • cramping,
  • diarrhea, and
  • nausea

Dosage and dosing of Bisacodyl

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Bisacodyl Tablet

  • Bisacodyl may cause stomach irritation if chewed or crushed.
  • Bisacodyl is not usually used during pregnancy, except immediately before delivery. Consult your doctor for advice.
  • Be sure to tell your doctor about any other drugs you are taking, especially antacids. Do not take an antacid within 2 hours of taking this drug.
  • Do not use this medicine for more than one week unless your doctor prescribes it.
  • Do not give this medicine to a child under 6 without your doctor's approval. Do not give this medicine to a child who refuses to have a bowel movement. It may result in a painful bowel movement, which will make the child resist even more.
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to bisacodyl, aspirin, tartrazine (a yellow dye in some processed foods and medicines, including bisacodyl), or any other drugs.

Storage conditions of Bisacodyl

Keep nitulamide in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
