Aromasin

Generic Name - Exemestane

Indroduction and Uses of Aromasin Tablet

Aromasin is used to treat advanced breast cancer in women who can no longer have children (postmenopausal) whose disease has gotten worse after treatment with tamoxifen. AROMASIN ® (exemestane tablets) is used for advanced breast cancer. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat women who have gone through menopause and whose cancer has progressed after taking tamoxifen.

Aromasin inhibits the enzyme aromatase in the adrenal glands that produces the estrogens (estradiol and estrone) and thereby lowers their levels.

Possible Side effects of Aromasin

Dosage and dosing of Aromasin

The doses of these medicines will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Warning and Precautions of Aromasin

  • Do not take Aromasin if you are pregnant. Aromasin may cause birth defects or even death to an unborn baby. Aromasin has only been studied in postmenopausal women.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies.
  • Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your health care professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
  • It is not known whether exemestane passes into human milk. Studies in animals have shown that exemestane passes into rat milk. Because this medicine may cause serious side effects, breast-feeding is generally not recommended while you are taking it.

Storage conditions of Aromasin

Keep nitulamide in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Cancer Tip

A diagnosis of cancer is usually a critical event in a person's life because it carries with it the threat of premature death, pain and disability. Today, however, many cancers can be cured or palliated for extended periods of time if initial treatment involves the appropriate therapy.
